We are back…in NYC!

Ob privat oder beruflich, die Veränderung der letzten zwei Jahre, im Schatten dieser Fortwährend anhaltenden Pandemie, haben fast keinen einzigen Lebensbereich ausgelassen. Während die Arbeit in großen Gruppen in der letzten Zeit fast unmöglich war, so gab es kaum einen anderen, projektbezogenen Bereich, in dem die Arbeit so deutlich beeinträchtigt wurde wie in der Internationalen Jugend Arbeit. Während wir bereits letztes Jahr unsere 20-köpfige Gruppe, die fest für unser Projekt BronxBerlin Connection eingeplant war, enttäuschend mussten indem wir die Reise absagten, so mussten wir diese schwierige Entscheidung bereits in diesem Jahr noch einmal treffen… Jedenfalls schien es so, bis uns vor knapp einer Woche die Nachricht erreichte, dass die USA den einreise stop für geimpfte Bürger aus Europa aufheben würde. Eine Nacht drüber geschlafen und einen Pott starken Kaffee später, und schwupps beschlossen wir spontan eine Gruppe einzupacken und los zu fliegen. Zwar mit einem bitterem Beigeschmack, da 85 % der ursprünglich eingeplanten Gruppe aufgrund ihres Impfstatus, fehlender deutscher Staatsbürgerschaften und keiner Zeit noch rechtzeitig Visa Anträge zu stellen und anderer Problematiken wegbrach, so war es uns wichtig das Signal zu senden, dass Dinge einfach wieder möglich sind. So machen wir uns nun auf den Weg mit einer Gruppe, die zur Hälfte aus Teilnehmerinnen unseres Schwester Projekts Street College und zur anderen Hälfte, aus jungen Künstlerinnen besteht, die im Rahmen unserer kreativ Workshops schon länger bei uns tätig sind.

Vom 14. bis 23. November werden wir zusammen New York City unsicher machen. Dance Parties in Orchard Beach und roof top jams in Brooklyn gehören genauso zum Programm wie Workshops in Schulen in Brooklyn, Harlem und der Bronx in Partnerschaft mit dem Goethe-Institut NYC. Wir werden in der gesamten Zeit Fotos, Eindrücke, Videos und vieles anderes teilen…

Ich hab lange gewartet das zu sagen…but we are back baby!

Whether privately or professionally, the changes of these last two years, in the shadow of this perpetual pandemic, have left out almost no single area of our daily life’s. While working in large groups has been almost impossible lately, there has hardly been any other project-related area where work has been affected as significantly as International Youth Work. While we had had to disappoint our group of 20 youths, which were firmly scheduled to be part of our BronxBerlinConnection last year by cancelling the trip, we had to make this difficult decision once again this year… Or so it seemed until we received the news, less than a week ago, that the United States would lift their travel ban for vaccinated citizens from Europe. One night of sleep and a strong pot of coffee later, we spontaneously decided to pack up a group youths and get going. Unfortunately, with a bitter aftertaste, as 85% of the group originally planned dropped out due to their vaccination status, lack of German citizenship and no time to apply for visas in time and other problems. However, it was important to us to send the signal that things are simply possible again. So we will now be on our way with a group, half of which consists of participants from our sister project Street college and the other half of young artists, who have been working with us for a period of time in the context of our creative workshops.

From November 14th to 23rd we will be exploring New York City together. Dance parties in Orchard Beach and roof top jams in Brooklyn are part of the program just as much as workshops in schools in Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx in partnership with the Goethe-Institut NYC. We’ll be sharing photos, impressions, videos and more throughout the trip…
