Die BronxBerlinConnection ist eine Plattform für junge B-Boys und B-Girls, Tänzer*innen, MC’s, Graffiti-Künstler*innen, Singer und Songwriter, Visual Artists und alle, die sich als Teil der Hip Hop Kultur verstehen. Die Vision ist die Bildung von transatlantischen Beziehungen zwischen jungen Menschen zwischen den Städten Berlin und NYC. Das Ziel ist die Veränderung der Teilnehmer*innen durch die Erfahrung des Reisens und des Kontakts mit anderen Kulturen und Ideen. Die BronxBerlinConnection reist seit 12 Jahren jährlich mit verschiedenen Gruppen von und nach New York City, und obwohl die einzelnen Jugendlichen, die im Laufe der Jahre daran teilgenommen haben, unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten, ist es das erklärte Ziel dieses Austauschs, diejenigen jungen Menschen zu identifizieren und einzubeziehen, die normalerweise nicht an Lern- oder Reisemöglichkeiten im Ausland teilnehmen können. Also haben wir uns aufgemacht, unsere eigenen „Stipendien“ zu vergeben, ein „Fulbright für die Straße“, wenn man so will, und obwohl wir mit dem, was wir erreichen konnten, nicht zufriedener sein könnten, streben wir nach mehr. Mehr Stipendien, mehr Austausch mit mehr Städten und natürlich mehr jungen Menschen.
Ab Sonntag, den 14. November, wird die diesjährige „BronxBerlinConnection“-Delegation ein neues Projekt in Angriff nehmen, das sie durch Schulworkshops, Treffen mit Bürgerrechtsaktivist*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen und Hip-Hop-Pionier*innen bis hin zu Shows und einem besonderen Auftritt beim 48-jährigen Jubiläum der Hip-Hop-Kultur mit unseren Leuten von Zulu Nation im Betty Shabazz und Malcolm X Center führen wird. Wir werden die ganze Zeit über einen Fotoblog führen!
The BronxBerlinConnection is a platform for young B-Boys and B-Girls, Dancers, MC´s, Graffiti Artists, Singer and Song Writers, Visual Artists and everyone who considers themselves part of Hip Hop culture. It’s vision is the formation of transatlantic relations between young people between the cities of Berlin and NYC. Its goal is the transformation of participants through the experience of travel and exposure to different cultures and ideas. The BronxBerlinConnection has been traveling to and from NYC with different groups annually for the last 12 years and while the individual youths who have been part of it over the years couldn’t have been more different, the stated goal of this exchange is identifying and involving those young people who usually aren’t part of the equation when it comes to learning or traveling abroad opportunities. So we set out to hand out our own „scholarships“, a „Fulbright for the streets“ if you will and while we couldn’t be happier with what we have been able to achieve, we strive for more. More grants, more exchange with more cities and certainly more young people.
Beginning Sunday, Nov. 14, this years „BronxBerlinConnection“ delegation will start a new endeavour which will lead them through school workshops, meetings with civil rights activists, scholars and Hip Hop pioneers all the way to shows and a special performance at the 48th anniversary of Hip Hop Culture with our people from Zulu Nation at the Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X Center.
